The Region is divided into seven administrative districts:
 

  1. Chunya 

  2. Ileje 

  3. Kyela 

  4. Mbarali

  5. Mbeya

  6. Mbozi and

  7. Rungwe.

 
Within the Local Government framework, the region has seven District Commissioners and one City Commissioner. The districts are subdivided into 25 divisions, 174 wards and 800 villages.
