![]() Chunya District council was established in 1984 by Local Government Act No 7 of 1982. According to 2002 National population Census Chunya had 206,615 people. The present population as at September 2009 is estimated to be 249,535 basing on the growth rate of 1.6 percent. The District has abundant area for investment which is open to both local and foreign investors. The District is rich in production of tobacco, simsim and sunflower as cash crops. It is also rich in minerals like gold, coal and green tourmaline. As to tourism and natural resources, fishing, beekeeping, wild animals, forestry are the major activities that are carried out in the District. Chunya is interconnected with good road network of 988.8 km giving easy access within and outside the District. The main road connecting Chunya and other Districts is gravel road which is well maintained and passable through-out the year. Also the District is connected by National Electricity Grid which provides reliable power supply. The investment profile supports the improvement of the socio-economic welfare of Chunya’s community.
