The Existing Situation

Mbeya District has potential minerals such as gold, granite, limestone, diamond, platinum, Uranium, Cobalt; nickel. This is according to baseline survey conducted by private companies. But no further exploration has been done to determine the amount of minerals deposits. 
 
However no large scale mining operations are going on in the District Council.  Most of the mining activities are done by small scale miners (artisan mining). Table No. 10 below summarize mining activities in Mbeya District.
