The Existing Situation

Mbeya District has potential areas for tourism industry development, yet nothing has been done to that effect. So up to this moment there are so many areas to invest in tourism industry. Tourists from overseas and within the country, researchers, students, Safari companies in Tanzania need to be persuaded to market the ecotourism potentials in Mbeya District.
 
The Shamwengo river which flows from Uporoto mountains and suddenly the water sinks in a pit and is nowhere to be see again.
Tourism attractions in Mbeya District
  • Hot spring water at Songwe – near Mbeya Cement Industry.
  • The Shamwengo River which flows from Uporoto Mountains and suddenly the water sinks in a pit and is no where to be see again.
  • Natural bridge at Izumbwe Village at Igale Ward. 
  • Caves at Mshewe Village – these caves are believed to be the place where traditional ceremonies were done during the colonial rule.
  • Mbeya Mountains view and scenery.

Investment Opportunities in Tourism
  • Tourists supporting services and facilities such as camping sites and restaurants, holiday resorts, permanent tented camps, lodges and guest houses.
  • Tour operators, tour services, travel and tour management, car hire activities, Hunting safaris, Tour guide.
  • Tourist Information Center.
