Industries and Manufacturing: The situation Mbeya City had a number of Manufacturing Industries operating under Public and private Sector. These industries include, Highland soap, Tanzania Dairies, Mbeya Wood Pole, Zana Za Kilimo (ZZK), Malik tiles. After privatization, none of the mentioned industries managed to survive; hence they are not in operation. The encouragement of the private sector by the government in building a competitive economy has managed the establishment of new industries in Mbeya City such as Coca Cola Company, Pepsi Cola Company, Marmo Marble Tiles, City Coffee, Furaha Bakery, and Mbeya Breweries. In addition there are Small and Medium Industries operating under SIDO and private sector which are scattered all over the City. They include Food Processing Industries which produce various products to add value such as wine. In Mbeya City there about thirty one (31) rice millers which process, clean and grade rice. About 75% of this produced rice is consumed out of Mbeya City. More than 10 small scale processing industries produce cooking oil from sunflowers seeds all over the City. Investment Opportunities in Industries and Manufacturing Given the wealth of resources and sustaining services in Mbeya City, there are sufficient opportunities in industries investment. The raw materials from agriculture make Mbeya City a most favorable location for variety of manufacturing industries. The current operating transport systems, telecommunication industry networks and the available financial services could effectively be used to support industrialization in the City. Mbeya Region has one of the fast growing economies in Tanzania. It has plenty of opportunities for investment ranging from agriculture, mining, manufacturing, transport, tourism, social services, infrastructure just to mention but a few.
