Economic Infrastructure: Situation

Communication network

Mbarali District situated along the tarmac road connecting Mbeya City and Dar es Salaam. In addition, a railway line (Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority – TAZARA) crosses the District having about six Railway stations including Rujewa, Chimala, Kangaga, Igurusi, Mswiswi and Mbalino that enables transport links to Mbeya City and to Dar es Salaam

District has good road network connection between ward centers or township centers. The District has road network of about 1010 km as stipulated below:

Telecommunication networks providers are available in most areas of the District, including
  • TTCL
  • TIGO
  • VODACOM
  • ZAIN and 
  • ZANTEL 

The District has three active Airstrips at Madibira, Ubaruku and Matebete. Currently the airstrips are used by Ruaha National Park, Large-scale farms like Kapunga, Mbarali Estates and Madibira. 

The District also enjoys diverse of media, including print media in Kiswahili and English such as Tanzania Standard Newspapers – Daily News, Habari Leo and Sunday News. IPP Media; The Guardian, Nipashe and others. Radio stations including national and international coverage; Mbeya Fm, Radio Free Africa (RFA), Radio Maria, Generation FM, Bomba FM, TBC Taifa, TBC FM and BBC. Televisions such as BBC, CNN, TBC1, Star TV, EATV and ITV

Security

Mbarali District security for its people and their properties has been taken care by having the police stations at the District headquarters and at the Ward centers. The District also has Institution of Prevention and Combating Corruption Bureau (PCCB). The Bureau aims at strengthening the mechanisms and processes of preventing and combating corruption in the area, thus creating conducive environment for investment.

Financial services
National Microfinance Bank Mbarali Branch
 

Mbarali District has only one National Microfinance Bank branch at the District Headquarters and SACCOSs which provide financial services to stakeholders in the area. 

Investment opportunities in Economic Infrastructure

a. Commercial banking such as CRDB, NBC, Barclays Bank, Stanbic Bank, Exim bank and Postal Bank are encouraged to come and invest in the District. 
b. Other financial institutions like bureau de change are also encouraged to be invested in the District in the sense that tourism industry will grow very fast in the District
