Forestry Kyela District has Natural and Traditional forests. Natural forests are found in Busale, Ikombe and Ngana areas. Katago forest is the only Traditional forest exist that can be used for attraction purposes. ![]() Wildlife The district has potential wildlife such as Hippos, Crocodiles, Monkeys, Bush pigs and snakes. Also Birds of different species such as Flamingo are found in the District. The abundance of hippos and crocodiles in Lufilyo Rivers and along the shores of Lake Nyasa can highly impress and attract investors to establish game sanctuary within the area. Also there is Matema area with 20 hectors which is suitable for Crocodile farming. Fishing The District has a shore lying with 20 kilometres on Lake Nyasa as a source of fish and other marine products. The major fish species from the Lake are traditionally termed as Mbasa, Mbagale, Mbelele, Magege, Usipa and Mbufu. Although Kyela has a big potential lake, there is no fish processing activity in the district. The main reason is due to small scale fishing with local technology which leads to low quantity of fish to be processed. The lake as a whole has an outstanding fish diversity estimated to be between 700 – 1000 species. Over 90% of these species are endemic. This makes the Lake as one of the world hotspot for water fish Biodiversity and Endemism. Investment Opportunities in Natural Resources ![]()
