Agriculture and Livestock There are about 2,030 hectares suitable for irrigation scheme but only 926 hectares are under cultivation. Areas fall under this hectares are served under the irrigation scheme of Ikumbilo, Chitete, Senga, Mbande, Sasenga, Mapogolo, Bupigu and Ibungu. ![]() Ileje District is rich in production of sunflower and groundnuts. The products from these crops are used for home consumption. Efforts are being made to help farmers to add values to these products in terms of development of oil seeds processing industries, extracting, and packaging materials making. Livestock is another area of which people can benefit as well as the District in general. Livestock rearing is commonly practiced under small scale in Bulambya Division but poultry is the most practiced activity in the area, though still under small scale. Ileje is well known with its black chicken’s production known as Mkorongo which grow very faster and produce meat and eggs as well. With the availability of grains, sunflower and poultry projects animals’ feeds industry can be developed to produce for business and boost poultry project.
